iOS Music Making - what you need to know.
Posted by Esteban Miranda on
I've now been a music producer for almost 15 years. (Moment to freak out about that, please!) In that time, I've gone from recording my music onto an 8 track, to moving onto a clunky computer and using Cubase, then graduating up to Logic Pro and finally Ableton. I remember my original 8 track, you had to bounce the track out onto a CD - in real time - if you wanted to listen to it! One of the most striking things about being involved in music production for all of that time is how much I've witnessed things change....
Logic Pro Drum Synth
Posted by Esteban Miranda on
If you checked out our last article, you'll be aware that Logic Pro has some really great ways of working with drums built into it. We covered Drummer, Logic's fantastic virtual drum plug-in, as well as the related Drum Kit- and Drum Machine Designers, which offer great ways of creating your own virtual drum kits (whether acoustic or electronic) for use with Drummer and other plugins. But in this article we are going to shift our focus onto Drum Synth. Logic Pro's extremely powerful drum synthesis engine. Sometimes you might want to make and tweak your own drum sounds instead of using samples, the method a lot of producers go for....
Garageband vs Logic Pro

I remember getting my first Mac computer. It was iMac for my sixteenth birthday, and I was so excited to power it up. Of course, I opened Garageband straight away and dove on in to its sample and loop based musical playground. Before that, even, I remember getting a CD-ROM (remember those?) free in a pack of cereal that was an even more rudimentary "DAW" in that it allowed you to drop in different loops and create music. It was probably called something like Super Pro DJ Xtreme 360 Madness. Anyway.... Far from being a traditional DAW, Garageband existed as...
Step Sequencing in Logic Pro

If you're old enough to remember playing around with hardware synths without keyboards, or if you're not old and you just happen to have some in your collection, then you're probably familiar with step sequencing as a concept. If you use a DAW, then you're definitely familiar. It's how you program music into your DAW, just look at a piano roll, and you're looking at a basic step sequencer. But while other DAWs have had this feature in an easy and accessible way for a long time, Logic Pro has been slow to catch up. So in this article, we are going to have...
Compressor in Logic Pro

If you've been following along with our guides this month, we've been putting a focus on getting back to basics. You can't ever go over the core pricinples too many times! So, hopefully you've had some nice discoveries (or re-discoveries) within Logic Pro, or just with ways you can use some of the basic effects and principles. We've covered Reverb and EQ, and in this guide today we are going to go over Compression. Our theme this month has been how important it is to remind ourselves of the basic concepts. And this is true whether you're a music producer or any type...
